We are seeking a skilled Pensions Developer to join our Pensions Systems team. With technical experience in a SQL database development environment and a proven understanding of relational databases, you will play a key role in developing, configuring and supporting all software and systems used across the business.
Main purpose of the role
The purpose of this role is to:
- Develop, configure and support all software and systems used by Trafalgar House.
- Analysis and manipulation of data using SQL Server and coding skills.
- Work with business analysts on projects developing efficient and effective IT solutions in accordance with the context provided by Trafalgar House.
- Translate specifications and requirements and develop into software solutions, creating and maintaining appropriate technical documentation.
- Provide IT and systems support as required by the business.
Key responsibilities
- Writing and understanding Microsoft SQL. Writing SQL select and update statements, stored procedures and views using industry best practices for security and efficiency.
- Development of required data conversion routines. Planning how work is to be carried out to meet targets of the project or team task.
- Produce software assets in adherence to standards. Work with business analysts and system users to develop solutions that support the intended purpose.
- Mapping data feeds into IntelliPen system which will include the use of IntelliFeed and SQL to interrogate, understand and document the required data to map.
- Develop solutions according to the brief and technical specifications. Work closely with other developers to integrate the applications according to standards and processes.
- Ensure all developments are fully documented, meet high level design requirements e.g. data, customer
- Experience, architecture, security, quality and operations, as well as regulatory and industry standards so projects are fit for purpose leaving testing and transitioning to live.
- Ensure all new developments go through an appropriate testing process and have solid release plans for hand-over to live operation.
- Maintenance of IntelliPen System including database updates, extracts, reporting, issue resolution and change request testing.
- Perform coding or system configuration to written technical specifications, becoming a specialist in the development of; Calculations, Workflows, Data reports, Document Production and Interfaces.
- Work within a professional, influential and proactive development team that tangibly adds value.
- Accurately report all development activity through timesheets, report on development progress and issues, identifying remedial action when required to address problems and keep development on track.
- Create & maintain strong working relationships with other members of the team and the wider projects and systems team so that the overall function operates professionally and is seen as delivery focused.
- Demonstrate a logical and structured approach to time management and task prioritisation. Work within project timelines and budgets.
- Work independently and/or within a team as the work requires.
- To provide support for systems as required including analysis, tracking and resolution.
- To utilise approved technologies for the development of systems.
- Has awareness of the ISO22301 standard and our business continuity management system. Read and understood key policies in the BCMS and understands what to do in the event of an incident.
Professional qualities
- Technical experience in a SQL database development environment with a proven understanding of relational databases.
- Experience coding SQL queries and working with data. Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the language, specifically complex select and update queries and a desire to continue learning.
- Some experience with one or all of the following: XML , VB.net, VBA, XSLT, HTML.
- Strong MS Office skills, particularly Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Motivated, self-starter who is able to apply themselves either individually or as part of a team with the
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- A commitment to quality and a thorough approach to the work.
- Ability to multitask and strong time management and organizational skills.

Desirable
- Some understanding of pension administration and/or payroll.
- Some exposure to working on new client implementation projects or large data manipulation projects using SQL.
