Pensions Calculation Developer
Main purpose of the role
The Pensions Calculation Developer plays a critical role in ensuring Trafalgar House delivers accurate, efficient and reliable pensions calculation software. This role is responsible for developing, configuring and maintaining the full suite of calculation functionality used across the organisation, supporting both day‑to‑day operations and long‑term system enhancements.
Key responsibilities
Technical Development & Application Support
- Develop, configure and maintain all pensions calculation software to meet business and regulatory requirements.
- Produce, execute and document comprehensive system testing for all calculation changes and releases.
- Perform coding and system configuration tasks aligned to technical specifications.
- Maintain, enhance and support the IntelliPen system, ensuring stability and continuous improvement.
Data Analysis & SQL Development
- Analyse, validate and manipulate pensions data using SQL Server tools and methodologies.
- Design, optimise and maintain secure SQL queries, stored procedures, views and scripts.
- Build and maintain data‑driven calculation routines and conversion processes to support projects and operational change.
Project Delivery & Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with Calculation Analysts, Project Teams and Systems colleagues to translate business requirements into robust technical outputs.
- Contribute to project planning, effort estimation, solution design and integration activities.
- Support the delivery of new implementations, system upgrades and large‑scale configuration changes.
Quality Governance & Compliance
- Ensure all developments adhere to design, documentation and quality assurance standards.
- Support release management processes, including acceptance testing, sign‑off and deployment activities.
- Maintain awareness of ISO2007 and contribute to compliance, resilience and business continuity practices.
Operational Support and Continuous Improvement
- Provide responsive and proactive system support, troubleshooting and resolving issues in a timely manner.
- Record technical activity, monitor progress and produce clear status reports for stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships across teams to support organisational goals.
- Manage personal workload effectively, adapting to competing priorities and deadlines.
Professional qualities
Essential
- Strong technical experience in pensions calculations within an administration or systems environment.
- Proven SQL and data analysis skills, with the ability to write secure and efficient code.
- Experience of working with Intellicalcs, XML, VB.NET, VBA, XSL and HTML.
- Excellent MS Office skills, particularly in Excel for modelling and testing.
- A highly analytical, motivated and detail‑oriented approach to work.
- Flexible, adaptable and collaborative, with a strong team ethic.
Desirable
- Knowledge of pension administration processes or payroll operations.
- Experience delivering client implementations, system migrations or SQL‑driven projects.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to explain technical concepts clearly.
